Well if isn't one of my favorite fellow scientists?! YES! I'm talking to YOU! Don't give me that look. I know... I know. "I'm sorry sir!" You might say. "With all due respect and as much as I would be proud to be a scientist. But I'm afraid I'm not."
Well of course you are! If you weren't one then why are you here bonding little ions together and make beautiful ionic compounds? Come on young fella! Let's see what you've got!
I am Niels Henrik David Bohr and for today, I will be your chemistry teacher!
You know atoms? The basic particles of the chemical elements and the fundamental building blocks of matter. Each atom is made of 3 components: protons, neutrons and electrons. Except for neutrons which are neutral and have no charge, each electron and proton has an equal charge, and atoms usually have equal amount of electrons and protons. Because no atom likes extra charges!
So what happens when you take an electron from an atom or forcefully give one to it? There you are! Now you've got yourself a ion! Wasn't that hard was it?
Ok here's the fun part. Do you remember me mentioning that atoms do not like to be charged earlier? Yeah they like to be neutral. Hence, when you have a ion, it thrills to be neutral again. But how can it be?
Well it's a long story you can read more about here and here! As in this game, everything is much simpler than you think! Shall we?!

HOW TO PLAY:
It's not much complicated, let me explain how this works:
So as we start, we've got 32 ions in our ion sheet. Each one is either an anion (ions with negative charge) or a cation (those with positive charge). You just have to match different ions so the sum of they're charge (top right of each atom shown with either + or -) would be equal to zero, 0, none, neutral! To do this simply choose your desired anions and cations and press IONITE! to make your sweet compound!
For example here is how to match Aluminium (Al) with Oxygen (O) :

See?! Aluminium's charge is +3 and Oxygen's is -2 so if you match two Aluminiums with three Oxygens you'll have:
2 X (+3) + 3 X (-2) = 6 - 6 = 0 which is neutral!
Also you don't combine the number of ions directly into the chemical formula. You find the smallest ratio that makes the total charge zero. If all the subscripts have a common factor, reduce them. So 2 Al³⁺ + 2 N³⁻ gives 2 AlN, not Al₂N₂. Hence you should bond only one Al³ and one N³⁻ each time. The easier way to remember it is that at least one of the multipliers in your compound must be an odd number!
And anytime you found yourself unable to match any ions in the sheet, simply press the
button to reset the sheet!

Nice educational game! Reminds me of my time in highschool. A cool feature for this game would be to add a library of all the salt molecules that we have formed by the end getting a bonus for doing more different combinations.
